Special Education: The Use of Paraprofessionals

LMACS may hire paraprofessionals and assistants to work in classrooms with special education students. These personnel do not design instruction for students with disabilities, but are expected to implement instruction under the supervision of an appropriately certified or licensed professional who is proximate and readily available to provide such supervision.

All paraprofessionals and assistants are to attend the staff meetings and any professional development sessions presented during the school year.

All paraprofessionals hired to work with students with an IEP will receive instruction from the Director of special Education regarding confidentiality, IEP review, and will receive the appropriate information regarding accommodations, goals and objectives. Paraprofessionals will not be expected to write progress reports, but they may be asked to join in Team IEP meetings if applicable.
