POSITION: High School STEM Teacher/Advisor
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
This position is responsible for instructing 9th – 12th grade students from diverse backgrounds in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). This position also assumes the role of Advisor to assigned groups of students. This is a unique teaching opportunity, offering the challenge to re-engage students in their education. The ideal candidate will have experience and/or knowledge in working with students, staff and faculty of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities. This position reports to the Director of the Lowell Middlesex Academy Charter School.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Develop and teach classes in STEM area of expertise and serve as an Academic Advisor for 15-20 students.
- Work collaboratively with small staff as a team, examining practice for continuous curriculum and instructional improvement.
- Participate fully in professional development week before and after the student academic year.
- Foster a positive classroom learning environment and contribute to a positive school climate that provides safety, support, discipline and structure.
- Utilize appropriate technology to facilitate teaching and learning.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in related STEM area.
- Massachusetts Educator License or Highly Qualified in any STEM area
- Experience working with at-risk students preferred

POSITION:School Social Worker
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Lowell Middlesex Academy Charter School (LMACS) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Social Worker to support our high-risk student population. This position is responsible for providing social, emotional, and mental health support to students while fostering a safe and inclusive school environment. The School Social Worker will ensure that students receive the resources they need to thrive both academically and personally. This position reports to the Executive Director of LMACS.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Direct Student Support: Provide individual and group counseling to students to address mental health concerns, trauma, family dynamics, behavior challenges, and social-emotional learning.
- Case Management: Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including assessments, counseling services provided, and family communications. Develop individualized action plans for students and monitor their progress.
- Collaboration with Staff: Work closely with faculty, staff, and administrators to develop and implement strategies for improving student behavior, attendance, and academic performance. Participate in Student Support Team (SST) meetings to address specific student needs.
- Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate support and intervention for students in crisis situations, including mental health emergencies, family crises, and behavioral incidents.
- Family Engagement: Act as a liaison between the school and students’ families to ensure open communication regarding students’ social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Assist families in accessing community resources, including mental health services, housing support, and other social services.
- Collaboration with External Agencies: Coordinate with external mental health professionals, social services, and community organizations to ensure students and families have access to needed services and resources outside the school.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution.
- Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Massachusetts.
- Minimum of two years of experience working in a school or similar educational setting.
- Experience working with high-risk student populations, including students with disabilities, English learners, and students from low-income backgrounds.
- Strong understanding of social-emotional learning, trauma-informed care, and restorative justice practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish preferred).
- Experience with crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
- Knowledge of local community resources and mental health services.
